 Ron Self is a dedicated security professional with more than 23 years of experience.  Self began his career in 1999 serving as a police officer with the Jonesboro Police Department and then as the Director of Security for the Blytheville School District.  In August 2015, he was selected as Director of Security for the Little Rock School District (LRSD).  In this position, he is responsible for the safety and security of over 22,000 students and more than 3,000 employees.  During his time at LRSD, Self has completely revamped the way school security is handled and reduced annual costs in his department by over $750,000. When the pandemic hit he co-directed the District’s COVID Point of Contact team and was instrumental in the implementation/operation of the newly-formed day camps to assist families of hospital employees. In 2018 Self joined the Department of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management at Arkansas State University as an adjunct professor. He has been recognized nationally by Security Directors News magazine as one of the “Top Twenty under Forty” security directors in the United States and has spoken at multiple conferences and training events covering topics such as active shooters and merging security and technology.  He has a Bachelor’s degree from Arkansas Tech University in Emergency Management, a Master’s degree in Disaster Preparedness from Arkansas State University, and holds a Superintendent license in the states of Texas and Arkansas.
